Q1.How is Power BI for Office 365 licensed?
Power BI for Office 365 is licensed as a subscription and priced per-user per-month billed on an annual basis.
Q2.Can Power BI for Office 365 be purchased on a month-to-month basis?
No. Power BI for Office 365 is currently only available with a full-year subscription.
Q3.Is there a minimum or maximum restriction on the number of Power BI for Office 365 licenses that can be purchased?
No. Any number of Power BI for Office 365 licenses can be purchased.
Q4.Is Power BI for Office 365 available on-premise?
No.Power BI for Office 365 is only available as an Office 365 cloud service.
Q5.What Power BI for Office 365 offers are available?
Power BI for Office 365 is offered in a variety of combinations with Office 365 products:
•Power BI for Office 365 with SharePoint Online Plan 2 plus Yammer and Office 365 ProPlus
•Power BI for Office 365 with SharePoint Online Plan 2 plus Yammer
•Power BI for Office 365 add-on to SharePoint Online Plan 2
Note: Not all offers are available through all licensing programs (program availability listed below).
Q6.Do I need any other products to use Power BI for Office 365?
Yes. Power BI for Office 365 requires SharePoint Online Plan 2. It also is recommended but not required that Power BI for Office 365 customers have Office 365 Pro Plus or Office 2013 Professional Plus for additional Business Intelligence capabilities, including Power View, Power Query, Power Pivot and Power Map Preview.
SharePoint Online Plan 2 and Office 365 Pro Plus are both included in Office 365 Enterprise Plans E3 and E4 as well as Office 365 Education Plans A3 and A4. SharePoint Online Plan 2A (Academic) also satisfies the SharePoint requirement. SharePoint Online Plan 2 is also included in Power BI for Office 365 Standalone offers but not in Power BI for Office 365 Add-on offers.
Q7.Is there a free trial available for Power BI for Office 365?

Q8.Are Government and Academic pricing available for Power BI for Office 365?
Yes. Government and Academic pricing are offered through the MOSP/Direct, EA and Open licensing programs. Government pricing is also available in Syndication, but Academic pricing is not. Power BI for Office 365 is not available for the US Government Community Cloud (GCC).
Q9.Can Power BI for Office 365 be purchased as an add-on to Office 365 Small or Medium Business plans?
No. Power BI for Office 365 requires SharePoint Online Plan 2 which is only available in Office 365 Enterprise E3 and E4 or as a separate subscription.
Q10.What BI capabilities are included in Power BI for Office 365 vs Excel?
Power BI for Office 365 offers a different set of BI capabilities from the BI features in Office 365 ProPlus and Office 2013 Professional Plus. It is recommended that customers have both Power BI for Office 365 and either Office 365 ProPlus or Office 2013 Professional Plus for a complete BI experience.
Q11.Is promotional pricing available?
Yes.
In the Microsoft Online Subscription Program (MOSP/Direct), Syndication and EA licensing programs: For Office 365 Enterprise E3 or E4 customers the Power BI for Office 365 add-on to SharePoint Online Plan 2 is available at a 40% discount for $20/user/mo billed on an annual basis.
In the Open licensing program: All Open customers will be eligible for a promotional price of $28/user/mo billed on an annual basis instead of the usual $40 price for the Power BI for Office 365 with SharePoint Online Plan 2 plus Yammer offer.
Both promotions are available through December 31, 2014. Promotions are available to commercial, academic and government customers. Promotional pricing will be applied for the duration of the agreement that the customer signs up for.
Q12.Do new Office 365 E3 or E4 customers qualify for the add-on promotion?
Yes. New Office 365 Enterprise E3 and E4 customers are also eligible for the promotion. Depending on the licensing program under which purchases are made, this might require purchasing Office 365 Enterprise E3 or E4 and Power BI for Office 365 in separate transactions.
