How to Do Deployment of MS Office with Office Deployment Tool

Ever encounter a situation where you are required to deploy Microsoft Office Pro plus, Skype for Business, One Drive for Business to a large amount of users? Well good news, Microsoft had provided us a solution to this. With Office Deployment Tool or ODT all we need is a correct configuration file you will be able to deploy the required software in the Microsoft Office suite.

1.       Firstly, you must get the ODT installer from Microsoft. Currently they are 2 different versions.

2.       Now, double click the installer to extract the file to a specific location.

3.          After extracting, you can proceed to configure the XML file. The example provided below is to download the installer

<Configuration>

  <Add sourcepath=”C:UsershongzcDesktopo2016″ OfficeClientEdition=”32″ Branch=”Current”>

    <Product ID=”O365ProPlusRetail”>

      <Language ID=”en-us” />

    </Product>

  </Add>

   <Display Level=”FULL” AcceptEULA=”TRUE” />

</Configuration>

*Precaution, make sure the source path is assigned before running the XML file.

4.          After configuring you can now proceed the download the installer. Open the folder, shift + right click, open command window here

Run the command setup.exe /download configuration.xml which basically is you downloading the whole pro plus installer.

* Precaution, configuration.xml is the default name, change it according to how you name your xml file

This step is only complete after you see another command line at the 2 row.

5.          Now it is time to install the software. Before installing it is always best we refer to the product ID site. Over there, they provide a list of product IDs that can be used in a XML file when deploying any Microsoft office software.

In this case we will be installing Skype for Business for E1 users.

First we will be editing the XML file

<Configuration>

  <Add sourcepath=”C:UsershongzcDesktopo2016″ OfficeClientEdition=”32″ Branch=”Current”>

    <Product ID=”SkypeforBusinessEntryRetail”>

      <Language ID=”en-us” />

    </Product>

  </Add>

   <Display Level=”FULL” AcceptEULA=”TRUE” />

</Configuration>

What the XML does is install Skype for Business Entry using the full UI and automatically accepting the EULA.

Once XML file is edited, proceed to run the command setup.exe /configure configuration.xml. It is similar to the steps in step 3.

Precaution, configuration.xml is the default name, change it according to how you name your xml file

By following the above steps you will be able to install Skype for Business Entry offline.
