Microsoft announces pre-orders for Surface Pro 3 in Malaysia
In a surprise move, Microsoft has decided to skip a generation and offer its new Surface Pro 3 in Malaysia.
The Surface Pro 3 is the latest iteration of Microsoft’s professional tablet and offers the full version of Windows 8.1 powered by Intel’s 4th Generation Core i3 and Core i7 processors.
With the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft has significantly tweaked the design of the device over its predecessor — it’s thinner and lighter than the Surface Pro 2 and yet has a bigger 12in capacitive screen with a whopping resolution of 2160 x 1440-pixels compared with the 10.6in FullHD screen of the Surface Pro 2.
However, the increase in pixels is largely due to Microsoft switching to a 3:2 aspect ratio for the Surface Pro 3 instead of the 16:9 aspect ratio of the Surface Pro 2 — pixel density is 216-pixels-per-inch (PPI) for the Surface Pro 3 which is not that far off from the 207PPI of the Surface Pro 2.
Until now, only the Surface 2 (which runs on a special ARM processor version of Windows 8.1) and the original Surface Pro were available to purchase locally.
The Surface Pro 3 will be offered in multiple configurations with either Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processors and different storage sizes.
The basic Core i3 model with 64GB of storage will retail for RM2,729 while the top-of-the-line model with the Core i7 processor and 512GB of storage will cost RM6,779.
